Dawn Borromeo Beaulieu, MD, FACG, AGAF, is an associate professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). She is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, with an expertise in the field of inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis). She has been caring for patients at Vanderbilt since 2009 and is part of the multi-disciplinary team at the Vanderbilt IBD center, which encompasses medical, nutrition, and mental health care for over 15,000 IBD patients across the country. 

In addition to clinical care, Dr. Beaulieu is involved in medical training and research. She was the founding director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease rotation for general GI fellows and the founding director of the Advanced IBD fellowship program at VUMC. She mentors medical students, residents, and GI fellows at Vanderbilt University. Her research focus began in women’s health and pregnancy and now includes functional medicine and IBD. In 2022, she published the first paper on functional medicine in IBD care. In addition to medical education, she is primary investigator in numerous pharmaceutical trials and multiple investigator-initiated clinical trials. 

In 2019, Dr. Beaulieu created the first dedicated functional medicine inflammatory bowel disease clinic in the country. She is focused on creating group and one-on-one models of care based on functional medicine for patients with severe IBD.
