The Gastro Girl Patient Institute (GGPI) is a nonprofit initiative dedicated to improving digestive health through patient education, empowerment, and community engagement.

Founded by the trusted Gastro Girl™ brand—the official patient education partner of the American College of Gastroenterology since 2016—GGPI was created to help individuals and families access credible, understandable, and actionable digestive health information. We believe that every person deserves the knowledge, tools, and support needed to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

At GGPI, we work alongside leading gastroenterologists, healthcare professionals, patient advocates, and community partners to bridge the gap between patients and providers. Through educational programs, digital resources, support initiatives, community outreach, and innovative technology, we strive to make digestive health information more accessible, engaging, and impactful.

Our mission is rooted in a simple belief: informed patients are empowered patients. When people understand their conditions, treatment options, and available resources, they are better equipped to actively participate in their care and engage in meaningful shared decision-making with their healthcare team.

Animal-Assisted Education & Awareness with Oliver

Oliver, a certified therapy dog and beloved Bearded Collie, serves as a unique ambassador for the Gastro Girl Patient Institute’s educational outreach efforts. Through his calm presence, gentle spirit, and ability to connect with people of all ages, Oliver helps create meaningful opportunities for learning, engagement, and emotional support.

Certified through Alliance of Therapy Dogs and recognized as a Reading Education Assistance Dogs® (R.E.A.D.®) therapy dog, Oliver participates in community outreach programs, healthcare events, educational initiatives, and therapeutic visits designed to promote well-being and connection.

As GGPI expands its outreach efforts, Oliver will continue visiting schools, community centers, healthcare settings, and special events, helping children, families, older adults, and caregivers engage with health education in a welcoming and approachable way.

Animal-assisted interactions have been shown to reduce stress, encourage communication, and create positive learning experiences. Through Oliver’s visits, participants not only gain access to educational resources and health information but also experience the comfort, joy, and connection that therapy animals can provide.

Whether he is offering a comforting paw, participating in literacy programs, or helping spark conversations about health and wellness, Oliver embodies the compassionate, patient-centered spirit of the Gastro Girl Patient Institute.
